Urgent Care vs. Emergency Room?

When should you go to an urgent care center versus going to the ER? It’s important to know the difference between the two.

You should visit an urgent care center when your health issue is not life threatening or risking disability. But if you need care immediately for a life-threatening condition or injury, you should call 911 or visit the nearest emergency room.

For example, a common cold, earache, sore throat, ankle sprain, or minor cut are not life threatening and therefore warrant a visit to urgent care. On the other hand, having trouble breathing, chest pain, or fainting could be signs of a serious issue and therefore require a trip to the emergency department.
